NOTABLE PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Before retiring, Soror Martel was the NASA Program Manager for Small and Minority Businesses in the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, at the Agency Headquarters, focusing on their inclusion in NASA’s contracts and subcontracts. In that role, she developed policy and implementation guidelines for NASA’s Mentor Protégé Program that was widely recognized as the model in the Federal Government. As a special consultant on loan from NASA, to the Texas Legislature, she proposed recommendations that resulted in landmark legislation which strengthened the Texas Historically Underutilized Business Program.
NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS CHAPTER PRESIDENT:
Her administration established two new programs that remain strong in the chapter 15 years following their implementation (SOL and PDLI). Also, NoVAC formally established the timekeeper role. It was also during this administration that the fundraising efforts for scholarship awards surged due to success of the annual “Delta Night to Remember” galas with attendance exceeding 600 guests.

"While NoVAC has been blessed with dedicated leadership, I believe that we should move to policy where Sorors seeking Chapter leadership should have demonstrated leadership by successfully chairing Committees with people and budget."
